designER-basic is the streamlined conceptual editor of the designER suite. Stripped of automatic correctness checks, restructuring tools, and translation phases, it serves as a pure digital canvas. It uses the exact same constructs and interface as the full version, but intentionally leaves every design judgment entirely to the user.
While designER guides users through the entire methodology and actively prevents pitfalls, designER-basic takes a hands-off approach. By design, it never flags a schema as incorrect and allows unrestricted connections. This makes it the perfect tool for classroom exercises and exams, where identifying modeling mistakes is part of the test.
Who it is for
designER-basic is tailored specifically for exercises and exams, where students must build a correct schema without relying on automated error detection, as well as for quick sketching during lectures or meetings. For automated correctness checks, restructuring, translation, and SQL generation, the full version of designER is the ideal solution.
Design principles
- Feature-rich toolbar. The toolbar provides the necessary ER model elements for conceptual modeling.
- Instant updates. The diagram and the code panel update in real time, even while a name is being typed.
- Zero data loss. Every change is saved automatically in the browser, and undo and redo enable navigation back and forth through the design actions.
